Sealants
At Britt Dental Center, we work hard to keep your smile free from damage and decay. We offer a number of preventive care services to protect your smile; one of these services is sealants. A dental sealant is a clear or white, liquid-plastic material put on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant bonds into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of teeth and protects them from tooth decay and cavities. Although children and teens usually use sealants, adults can use them, too.
The process for applying a dental sealant takes just a few minutes. We will simply clean and dry the tooth, paint the sealant onto the tooth, and allow it to dry. Applying dental sealants is completely painless and does not require the use of any needles, shots, or numbing.
Sealants work in two main ways to protect your teeth from decay. First, they seal out the natural pits, ridges, and grooves on the surfaces of these teeth. This creates a smooth surface that is easier to keep clean with normal brushing. Second, the sealant acts as a barrier to block out plaque, food particles, and bacteria that lead to tooth decay and cavities.
